Sure, you can find fun as adventurous or luxurious as you like, friendly towns, quality lodging, and breathtaking beauty along the Payette River Scenic Byway. But, did you know the byway is also home to an award-winning hat maker? Randy Priest of Silver-Tip Hat Company was recently awarded the Idaho Governor's Award in the Arts for Folk and Traditional Arts. Stop by and see his millinery shop on Main Street in Donnelly, Idaho - it's a step back in time.
"Named one of the greatest scenic drives in the country by USA Today, the drive is beautiful year-round, but Idaho's wintry temperatures aren't extreme. In late January and early February, when the annual McCall Winter Carnival takes place in McCall, the temps however between 36 and 45 degrees. While you should always check the weather, it's usually a good time to take a drive. Says Forbes contributor Micki Maynard: "Most people's perception is that winter is not a good time for a scenic drive, but if you are in a part of the country where they know how to deal with snow, it's the best time. The roads will be clear, and you have all this beautiful scenery around you."
